What You'll Learn

Real-time insight into welding quality.

You will learn about interval and end-coupon sampling, how samples are removed and evaluated, and how testing offers real-time insight into welding quality.

The training highlights how early detection of deficiencies allows installers to adjust techniques, prevent widespread issues, and demonstrate compliance to owners, engineers, and regulators.

You’ll also learn best practices for tracking and responding to failed samples.

Develop the knowledge needed to verify seam performance and support successful containment system installation.

This course is based on the The Complete Field Guide to Ensuring Quality Geosynthetics Installations (Volume 1: Fundamentals & Geomembrane), authored by Glen W. Toepfer.

Glen Toepfer

President, CQA Solutions

Glen Toepfer, C.E.T. is the founder and President of CQA Solutions, LTD. He is the author of The Complete Field Guide to Ensuring Quality Geosynthetics Installations, the industry-leading field manual first published in 2015.

Glen's career began in 1990, when he took a summer CQA job just prior to entering grad school.

“My first boss as a CQA technician expressed concern about my quietness," said Glen, "and questioned whether I would indeed be willing to stand my ground against contractors hell-bent on doing things their way. I quickly learned that fieldwork will either crumble you into the ground or forge you."

Little did Glen know, this temporary job would change the trajectory of his entire career. "Quietly, I began a transformation," he said. "My new job was morphing from a paycheck into a passion.

“I set my course to mastering the role of Quality Technician and never looked back."

Glen went out on his own as a technician for hire in 2003 and has been an independent force for change ever since.

Today, CQA Solutions is a global leader in field services, consulting, training, industry commentary and more, with the corporate footprint spanning more than 170 countries.

With more than 50 speaking engagements worldwide and in excess of 20 technical papers authored, Glen is well established as a leading expert in the containment industry.

And yet, after 35 years in the profession, he still loves to get his boots dirty.

"The challenge of the field still drives me today," he said. “There is something so satisfying about getting out of the truck as the sun rises, seeing the crews prep for the day eagerly anticipating the start of activities.

"Days spent in the field are still some of my favorite workdays; long hours, crazy weather, difficult personalities and all, I still love it!”

Division Lead, CQA Solutions

Brent is a seasoned Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) professional with 20 years of experience supporting the containment industry throughout the United States.

He specializes in landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS), compacted clay liners, and geosynthetics, and is certified through the Geosynthetic Certification Institute’s Inspector Certification Program.

Brent's technical expertise includes preparing detailed Quality Assurance Plans and Final Certification Reports for both geosynthetic and earthwork construction projects.

Throughout his career, Brent has provided strong leadership in project management, consulting, and constructability review. He has audited geosynthetic installations, performed earthwork oversight, and managed landfill gas and geosynthetic projects of varying scope and complexity.

His responsibilities have included site monitoring to ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory requirements, documentation and reporting, leading construction meetings, troubleshooting liner installations, and mentoring CQA staff.

In addition to extensive hands-on field experience—spanning thousands of acres of CQA work involving compacted soils and geomembranes (LLDPE, HDPE, PVC)—Brent has performed geosynthetic and soil sampling, coordinated with testing laboratories, and evaluated analytical results to verify project conformance.

His experience also includes cold-weather construction and the use of GPS and total station surveying. Brent contributed to the design of geosynthetics CQA software and frequently consults on projects facing complex constructability challenges.

He serves as Health & Safety Officer and Radiation Safety Officer in multiple states with active radioactive materials licenses. He has taught numerous industry training courses and co-authored technical papers and presentations within the geosynthetics field.
